Joyful school children in India are asking: "Giv'me a bike to go school!"

Joyful school children in India are asking: "Giv'me a bike to go school!"

School is too far from villages to walk each day barefoot with heavy bags of books, making school attendance difficult to the point of jeopardizing students’ future. Bicycles help poor boys and girls go to school regularly. Students own their bike after completing school. Our project has the sup...

Who Are We?

HUMANITARIAN AND EMERGENCY RELIEF NON-PROFIT

Mary Mother of Peace-Medjugorje Charity (MMP-MC) is a humanitarian non-governmental organization (NGO) bringing emergency relief, alleviating poverty, and helping war orphans, homeless children, disaster victims, refugees and suffering people of all faiths rebuild their lives, improve their living/educational conditions and regain dignity at home and overseas. MMP-MC is a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt non-profit charity with headquarters in Bethesda, Maryland, USA. This mission and faith-based organization relies on dedicated volunteers as Board members. It brings relief in the form of food, shelter, educational training and medical assistance, including reconstructive surgery and psychological assistance to children victims of trauma. For further information click Mission Statement.

DONORS ARE PARTNERS

MMP-MC will oversee the partnership with donors and benefactors. About 93 % of proceeds go to financial beneficiaries needs, the remainder covering current expenses and fund raising cost. This ratio is audited each year and results place MMP-MC on top in term of financial performance in the non-profit sector in the US. Donations are tax deductible. You can safely Make a Gift Online or send your check to MMP-MC, 8617 Irvington Avenue, Bethesda, Maryland 20817-3603. E-mail: mmpcharity@gmail.com. A letter/receipt is sent to each donor in accordance to Federal laws, with God’s blessings to all. Individual donors are people of goodwill of all faiths, and include many friends of Medjugorje, and some former pilgrims to Lourdes, Fatima, Rome and other holy places around the world. Ask for matching gifts from your employers. We are grateful to you. “Good people do good things because of the good in their hearts”.

ORPHAN CHILDREN AND DISASTER VICTIMS

MMP-MC focus is on orphans, poor children --boys and girls-- and victims of disaster and war. Activities started in France in 1993 with emergency relief in the Balkans, especially Bosnia-Herzegovina, and MMP-MC was fully incorporated in the US in 2000. With the tragedy of September 11, 2001, geographic focus has diversified overseas and at home. Today, needs are enormous in regions victims of armed conflicts and terror attacks. You can easily imagine the life saving needs of the children, orphans of war, often living in refugee camps or in the street, begging, skipping school, and potential preys for criminals. The increasing pattern and strength of natural calamities worldwide is also a major concern.

Bosnia and Herzegovina. This remains a key program of MMP-MC. It includes support to Mother's Village Orphanage in Bijakovici run by the Franciscans, help to poor families including medical care, and a God-parenthood program. Children of various ethnic and religious backgrounds, desperate for material and emotional support, still need healing, physically, mentally and spiritually. For further information, click Get Involved and Programs.

Southern India. More than three years after the tsunami, rebuilding homes and livelihoods is still needed. Action today includes bringing children to school, medical care and a God-parenthod program in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Improving lives and reducing poverty is also a key objective of this program implemented jointly with our local partner Jeevana Samrhidi (Life in Abundance), the Charity wing of Jesus Youth India.

Afghanistan. MMP-MC financial contribution helped save the life of a few children during the terrible winter of January-February 2002, which claimed numerous lives in refugee camps. See testimony in Get Involved. This program continues today on a case by case basis with the intention of offering an education to talented and carefully screened, but materially disadvantaged students.

Other areas include poverty alleviation in Mexico and Haiti and children medical assitance in Argentina (where MMP-MC through the generous donation of Frank and Colleen successfully funded a life saving spine reconstruction surgery in 2006 for a young girl, Camila, in Mendoza).  MMP-MC medical and dental assistance program overseas (Bosnia, India) receives sponsorship from a network of US, European and Indian physicians, technicians and others helping arrange for surgical reconstruction, prostheses, and the shipping of medicine and dental laboratory supplies. In  the future if funds and volunteers are available  we could possibly engage in micro  finance and rural development projects in Africa where people, especially children die by the millions from hunger, disease, unsafe water and civil strife.  A new disaster recovery project in the Philippines is expected to start beginning 2010.

LOCAL OUTREACH

Our presence in the Washington Metropolitan Area is enabling us to develop some actions to reach out local people, within the limits and constraints of resources made available to us. There is still great need to help rebuild the lives of Hurricanes' victims in Louisiana, Mississippi and elsewhere.

We also need to especially care for our own war orphans and for disabled service people. To contribute in restoring health and well-being, MMP-MC is offering them to aid other young victims of conflict abroad or suffering families at home. The aim is to mutually rebuild lives. The program is called Little Flower. Funds and a volunteer are needed to make this program a stronger reality.

Educational and humanitarian conferences with TV video films and benefit concerts are taking place in major local High Schools that request them. Objective is to make students aware of the suffering of others and to share with them the universal values of solidarity, justice, life, peace, education, forgiveness and love, which are common to all cultures and people. Without these values true and lasting freedom is not possible. Let’s break the cycle of poverty and despair together, build solidarity, and bring peace to the world. Click Get Involved to know more.
