The Philippines Post-Disaster Recovery Schooling Project
A series of devastating typhoons and tropical storms have recently battered the Philippines causing repeated flooding and mudslides. Low-lying areas near Manila were hit particularly hard. The amount of rain that poured down in just a few hours was equal to what the region normally gets in a month. In suburban Cainta, east of Manila, for example, and in the Laguna province, rescuers plucked bodies from muddy floodwaters and scrambled to save drenched survivors on rooftops. The aftermath has resulted in loss of life, destruction and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of children and families to emergency shelters. Many Filipinos who have survived the disasters are trying to rebuild their lives.
We are gearing up for implementing a Post-Disaster Recovery Project. Now, a sense of normalcy has been brougth back into children's lives. Many schools still need major repairs and new basic equipment/supplies. Children and teachers need new books so learning and interaction with other students could continue smoothly. It is important that children, both boys and girls continue to go to school, healthy. Because of lack of funding, school project launching has been delayed and start-up activities will depend on fund raising results in 2011. We have already received a few donations. Thank you for your generosity. If you wish to help you can:
